First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 놈 (Yale: nwom). The primary meaning shifted from "person" (of any gender) to a more disparaging "bastard" only used for men. From Old Korean 者音 (*NWOm).
