Etymology

First attested in the Yongbi eocheon'ga (龍飛御天歌 / 용비어천가), 1447, as Middle Korean 기드〮리다〮 (Yale: kìtúlì-tá). Subsequently also recorded as 기ᄃᆞ리다 (Yale: kitoli-ta). From Old Korean 待是 (*KITUli).
