Etymology

Verbal phrase, composed of (ki, mood, spirit, mind, feelings) + (ga, subject particle) + 違う (chigau, to be different; to be abnormal).[1]

First attested in works from the late Muromachi period (1336–1573).[1]

This term appears to be rare in modern usage, and it is not included in some dictionaries.[2][3][4]
