合衆国

From Literary Chinese 合眾國 (hézhòngguó), from 合 (“union”) +‎ 眾國 (“democratic state”), which is a calque of English United States, probably coined by Elijah Coleman Bridgman before 1844.[1] Soon rebracketed as 合衆(がっしゅう) (gasshū, “assembly of people”) and 国(こく) (koku, “state”).

     In addition, some people argue that if world civilization advances, the countries that today are each independent will all become a union, and one large federal state unifying the whole world will arise, and there will no longer be any conflicts between nations.
