びりびり

びりびり or ビリビリ • (biribiri) 

1. (onomatopoeia) in a manner of ripping, tearing, rending to small pieces

   紙(かみ)をびりびりと破(やぶ)る

   kami o biribiri to yaburu

   tear a paper to shreds

   • 2014, Rie Kuwabata, Anata ga umarete kara [Since you were born], page 24:

     買(か)ったばかりの雑誌(ざっし)をビリビリ破(やぶ)る隊長(たいちょう)。

     Katta bakari no zasshi o biribiri yaburu taichō.

     The captain tears to pieces the magazine he just bought.

2. (onomatopoeia) as though vibrating, tingling

   びりびり響(ひび)く

   biribiri hibiku

   get a tingling sensation

びりびりする or ビリビリする • (biribiri suru) suru (stem びりびりし (biribiri suru shi), past びりびりした (biribiri suru shita))

1. to shiver, to tingle, to feel a shock

     舌(した)がびりびりするほどからいカレーだ。

     Shita ga biribiri suru hodo karai karē da.
