ὄστρακον

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Traditionally held to be related to ὀστέον (ostéon, bone) and ὄστρεον (óstreon, oyster). Beekes considers it more likely to be Pre-Greek, which does not exclude a relation to ὄστρεον (óstreon).
