From ἀληθής (alēthḗs, “true”) + -ιᾰ (-ia, abstract noun suffix), from ἀ- (a-, “not”) and λήθω (lḗthō, “I escape notice, I am hidden”) — whence English lethargy (“sluggishness”) — ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂- (“to hide”).
