From ἀληθής (alēthḗs, true) + -ιᾰ (-ia, abstract noun suffix), from ἀ- (a-, not) and λήθω (lḗthō, I escape notice, I am hidden) — whence English lethargy (sluggishness) — ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂- (to hide).
