Etymology

Blend of *ობი (*obi) + -შ (, genitive case marker) + დღა (dɣa, day), the meaning of *ობი (*obi) is unknown, sometimes theorized to represent a pre-Christian God of rain and thunder.[1]

Cognate with Laz ობიჩხა (obiçxa).
