ბორცჳ

Old Georgian

Etymology

According to Andronikashvili, an Iranian borrowing from the family of Persian برز (borz, high, tall). For the -ც- (-c-) compare ცრუჲ (cruy).

According to Fähnrich, a Nakh borrowing: compare Ingush боарз (boarz, gravemound, mound of earth; kurgan), Chechen барз (barz, hill, hillock, mound). The Nakh terms are usually derived from Ossetian барз (barz), which is cognate with Persian برز (borz).
