Etymology

From พรหม (prom, Brahma, one of the Hindu supreme gods) + ลิขิต (lí-kìt, document; letter; writing); literally "Brahma's writing"; referring to a mark traditionally believed to be written on a newborn baby's forehead by the god Brahma, specifying the future of the baby. Cognate with Khmer ព្រហ្មលិខិត (prɔɔhmɔɔlikhət) and analogous to Burmese နဖူးစာ (na.hpu:ca).
