From ทรัพย์ (sáp, possessions; wealth; valuable; etc) + สิน (sǐn, possession; wealth; valuable; etc).

The first sense was probably first used on 11 November 1923, when the first book of the Civil and Commercial Code of Thailand was promulgated.
