Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *il. Cognate with Tamil இல் (il, house), Malayalam ഇല്ലം (illaṁ, house, place), Kodava ಇಲ್ಲವೇನ್ (illavēn, man who is a relative), Tulu ಇಲ್ಲ್ (illŭ, house, dwelling, family), Kolami ఎల్ల (ella, house). False cognate of Greenlandic illu.
