Borrowed from Sanskrit मनस् (manas, “mind, intellect”), cognate with Kannada ಮನಸ್ಸು (manassu), Malayalam മനസ്സ് (manassŭ) and Telugu మనసు (manasu). Doublet of மனம் (maṉam).
Compare Assamese মন (mon), Bengali মন (mon), Gujarati મન (man), Hindi मन (man), Marathi मन (man), Punjabi ਮਨ (man).
