Inherited from Prakrit 𑀙𑀼𑀯𑀇 (chuvaï), from Sanskrit छुपति (chupáti). Compare Old Marathi 𑘭𑘲𑘪𑘜𑘹 (sīvaṇe), 𑘫𑘲𑘪𑘜𑘹 (śīvaṇe).
