Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀲𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀳𑀸𑀇 (saddahāi), from Sanskrit श्रद्दधाति (śraddadhāti, to believe, trust; to expect (something) from someone), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *śraddádʰaHti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćradᶻdʰádʰaHti, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱred-dʰédʰeh₁ti (to be placing one's heart, i.e. "to be believing or trusting"), compounded from the oblique case form of *ḱérd (heart) + *dʰédʰeh₁ti (to be placing).
