Inherited from Early Assamese বাঁশী (ba̐śī), from Sanskrit ৱংশী (vaṃśī, “flute”). Cognate to Bengali বাঁশি (bãśi), Hindustani بانسری / बाँसुरी (bā̃surī), Gujarati વાંસળી (vā̃saḷī).
