Learned borrowing from Sanskrit देह (deha), Proto-Indo-Aryan *dáyźʰas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰáyȷ́ʰas (form, shape, mold, wall), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰéyǵʰ-o-s, from *dʰeyǵʰ- (to mold, form). Cognate with Proto-Iranian *paridayjah, whence also English paradise and ফেরদৌস (pherdous).
