Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀞𑀸𑀡 (ṭhāṇa), from Sanskrit स्थान (sthāna). Cognate with Chittagonian ঠাঁই (ṭai), Assamese ঠাই (thai), Maithili ঠাম (ṭhām), Bhojpuri 𑂘𑂰𑂀𑂫 / ठाँव (ṭhā̃v), Romani than, Persian ستان (stân), English stay. Doublet of স্থান (sthan), স্তান (stan, “place”), থানা (thana, “police station”), থাকা (thaka, “to live, stay”), স্থল (sthol, “ground, land”), থালা (thala, “plate”), স্থাপন (sthapon, “placing”), স্থাপত্য (sthapotto, “architecture”), ঠিক (ṭhik, “correct, right”), ঠিকানা (ṭhikana, “place, address”) and স্থিত (sthito, “fixed, located”).
