Inherited from Sanskrit কঙ্কাল (kaṅkāla, “skeleton”), from Proto-Indo-European *kenkēl- (“kneecap; joint”). Cognate with Chittagonian কেঁইল, Rohingya 𐴑𐴠𐴣𐴞𐴓 (keñil) / كࣹاِل / keñil, English heel.
