Etymology

Inherited from Early Assamese এড়্ (eṛ), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀏𑀟𑁂𑀇 (eḍei, deserts, drives away), from Sanskrit এটতে (eṭate, goes). Cognate with Bengali এড়া (eṛa), Sylheti ꠄꠠꠣ (eṛa), Odia ଏଡିବା (eḍiba).
