Etymology
Probably from Proto-Indo-European *ḱów-no- (“luminous; vibrant”), perhaps an extension of *ḱew- (“to shine”), and related to शुच् (śuc, “to shine”), शुध् (śudh, “to purify”), and शुभ् (śubh, “to beautify”); outside of Indic, compare perhaps Welsh cun (“lovely”), Russian суни́ка (suníka, “wild strawberry”).
