Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *wāźʰáyati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wāȷ́ʰáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ- (“to ride”). Cognate with Old English weċġan (whence English wedge).
