Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyaȷ́atás (“holy, worthy of worship”); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₁yaǵ- (“to worship”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬀𐬰𐬀𐬙𐬀 (yazata, “worthy of worship”).
