Borrowed from Classical Persian پیاده (piyāda, literally on foot), from Middle Persian 𐭯𐭣𐭠𐭲𐭪' (pdʾtk' /⁠payādag⁠/). Compare Punjabi ਪਿਆਦਾ (piādā) / پیادہ (piyādā), Gujarati પ્યાદું (pyādũ), Marathi प्यादे (pyāde), Bengali পেয়াদা (peẏada), Kannada ಪ್ಯಾದೆ (pyāde).
