Borrowed from Classical Persian نقلی (naqlī, “imitation, counterfeit”) (modern Persian "traditional, historical"). By surface analysis, नक़ल (naqal, “imitation”) + -ई (-ī), with the former part borrowed from Classical Persian نقل (naql), from Arabic نَقْل (naql).
