Borrowed from Classical Persian تمغا (tamğā), itself a loanword from Chagatai. Compare Punjabi ਤਮਗ਼ਾ (tamġā), Tibetan ཐམ་ཀ (tham ka), Mongolian тамга (tamga), Georgian დამღა (damɣa), Turkish damga, Crimean Tatar tamğa, Bashkir тамға (tamğa).
