Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ȷ́ʰagẓʰ-, reduplication of the root *ȷ́ʰas- (“to laugh”); whence also हसति (hasati). Also compare Pali jagghati (“he laughs, ridicules”). See the root हस् (has) for more.
