From, undergoing metathesis, Old Hindi कछु (kachu), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀺𑀁𑀘𑀺 (kiṃci), from Sanskrit किंचिद् (kiṃcid), neuter singular of कश्चिद् (kaścid, someone) (whence कोई (koī, anyone)).

The -ch- reflects -śc- in Sanskrit कश्चिद् (kaścid).
