Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘄𑘩𑘿𑘮𑘰𑘭 (ulhāsa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀉𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀸𑀲𑀬 (ullāsaya), from Sanskrit उल्लास (ullāsa). Compare Gujarati ઊલસવું (ūlasvũ), Hindustani ہُلَاس (hulās) / हुलास (hulās), Braj हुलास (hulās), Assamese উলাৰ (ular, “delight; pleasure; excitement”).
