Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘀𑘑𑘰𑘪 (aghāva), 𑘁𑘑𑘰𑘌 (āghāo), 𑘁𑘑𑘰𑘪 (āghāva), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀸𑀑 (aggāo),[1] ablative singular of 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕 (agga, beginning, top), from Sanskrit अग्र (ágra). Cognate with Gujarati અગાઉ (agāu), Hindi अगाऊ (agāū), Punjabi ਅਗਾਊਂ (agāū̃) / اگاؤں.
