Inherited from Old Gujarati एकलउं (ekalaüṃ), from Prakrit 𑀏𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀮𑀬 (ĕkkalaya), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀏𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀮𑁆𑀮 (*ekkalla) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-) (compare Sanskrit एकल (ekala)). Cognate with Gujarati એકલું (ekalũ), Hindustani اَکیلَا (akelā) / अकेला (akelā), Marwari एकलौ (eklau) / 𑅓𑅕𑅮𑅒 (eklu), ऐकलौ (aiklau) / 𑅑𑅕𑅮𑅒 (iklu), येकलौ (yeklau) / 𑅛𑅓𑅕𑅮𑅒 (jeklu), Gojri ایکلو (eklo), Punjabi ਅਕੇਲਾ (akelā) / اَکیْلا (akelā), Bengali একলা (ekola), Assamese অকল (okol), Sylheti ꠄꠇꠟꠣ (exola).
