Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yag- (to rain) and thus related to یاغمور (yağmur, rain); cognate with Azerbaijani yağmaq, Bashkir яуыу (yawıw), Chuvash ҫу (śu), Kazakh жауу (jauu), Kyrgyz жаа (jaa) and Turkmen ýagmak.
