From Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀧𑀁𑀓𑁆𑀔 (*paṃkkha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-) + -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from the nominative singular form of Sanskrit पक्ष्मन् (pákṣman). Compare Gujarati પાંખડી (pā̃khḍī), Marathi पाकळी (pākḷī).
