From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (mdyʾncyk' /⁠mayānǰīg⁠/, mediator, intermediary),[1] ultimately from Proto-Iranian *madyānah, from *mádyah (middle).

Cognate with Sogdian 𐼍𐼊𐼌𐼀𐼎𐼕𐼊 (myδʾncy /⁠mēδānčī⁠/, middle, mediator). [2]
