Etymology
From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (mdyʾncyk' /mayānǰīg/, “mediator, intermediary”),[1] ultimately from Proto-Iranian *madyānah, from *mádyah (“middle”).
Cognate with Sogdian 𐼍𐼊𐼌𐼀𐼎𐼕𐼊 (myδʾncy /mēδānčī/, “middle, mediator”). [2]
