From Proto-Turkic *kïl; cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (kil), Yakut кыл (kıl), Uyghur قىل (qil), Kazakh қыл (qyl), Bashkir ҡыл (qıl, hair) and Kyrgyz кыл (kıl).
