Etymology 1
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *koyn, variant of *koń (“sheep”); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰸𐰆𐰪 (q̊¹uń /koń/), Azerbaijani qoyun, Kazakh қой (qoi), Kyrgyz кой (koy), Tatar қуй, Turkmen goýun, Uyghur قوي (qoy) and Uzbek qo'y.
