From Aramaic קָזָא / קָאזָא (qāzzā, “floss silk, cotton-seed”) from Middle Persian [script needed] (kač) (New Persian کژ (kaž)), which has also been borrowed directly as خَزّ (ḵazz). See the New Persian entry for more.
