Feminine form of the elative adjective أَفْصَح (ʾafṣaḥ, “purest in language, most eloquent”), derived from فَصِيح (faṣīḥ, “pure in language, eloquent”). The noun is derived from the expression لُغَة عَرَبِيَّة فُصْحَى (luḡa ʿarabiyya fuṣḥā, “pure Arabic language”).
