غزنی
Persian
Etymology
Through metathesis and apocope (elision of the final sound) of گنزک (ganzak, “treasury”) (also the name of an ancient town in Azerbaijan). See گنج (ganj, “treasure”) and گنجه (ganje, “Ganja”) (a city in Republic of Azerbaijan) for more. Ultimately from Old Median *ganǰam (“treasure”).
