Calque of Classical Syriac ܚܘܛܪܝ ܪܥܝܐ (ḥuṭray rāʿyā), itself a calque of Akkadian 𒌑𒃻𒉺 (U₂GAR.PA /⁠ḫaṭṭi rē’î⁠/, literally herd’s staff), or an unattested expression with 𒄷𒁕𒊒 (ḫu-ṭa-ru /⁠ḫuṭāru⁠/, staff).
