Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀲𑀼𑀭 (sasura), from Sanskrit श्वशुर (śvaśura), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *swáśuras, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swáćuras, from Proto-Indo-European *swéḱuros. Doublet of خُسَر (xusar). Cognate with Punjabi سَوہرا (sauhrā), Saraiki سَوہرا (sauhrā), Sindhi سَهُرو (sahuro), Burushaski [script needed] (šūšur), Kalasha [script needed] (išpášur), Khowar اِشپاشُور (išpašúr), Torwali شأژو (šλẓo) and far cognate with Pashto سخر (/sxr/).
