- One cannot cross the water of the Nile, first because it is a large body of water, and second, because there are many alligators inside, so that any animal which falls into the water is dragged under all at once. They say that in the environs of the city, a talisman has been set up on the road so that people and animals will not be in danger. Nobody has the courage to go into the water in a place other than within one arrowshot's width of the city.
