From Middle Persian 𐭣𐭩𐭣𐭩𐭬𐭩 (dīyēm, dīdēm, “diadem”) from Parthian 𐭃𐭉𐭃𐭉𐭌 (dīδēm, dīdēm, “half-crown, flower-crown”). Ultimately from Ancient Greek διάδημα (diádēma).
