Borrowed from Aramaic חָנוּתָא / ܚܳܢܽܘܬܴܐ (ḥānūṯā), as also Ge'ez ሐኖት, ሓኖት (ḥänot, ḥanot) and Hebrew חָנוּת (ḥānūṯ). Compare Armenian խանութ (xanutʻ) (shop, store).
