تاجیک

Persian

Etymology

Possibly related to تازیک (tâzik), a re-borrowing from Old Turkic.

According to W. Henning, from *Tāt-čīk, originally *Tād-čīk.

Popular folk etymology traces the word to Tajik тоҷ (toj, crown) (see Persian تاج (tâj, crown))
