بیختن

Persian

Etymology

From Middle Persian 𐭥𐭩𐭧𐭲𐭭 (ʿyḥtn /wēxtan/, to sift), from Proto-Iranian *waič-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wayč-, and cognate with Sanskrit विच् (vic, to sift, separate). The Indo-Iranian root is traditionally derived from Proto-Indo-European *weyk- (to separate, choose, set aside); however, Cheung and Mayrhofer find this doubtful.[1][2]
