Inherited from Middle Persian 𐬠𐬎𐬑𐬙𐬆𐬥 (buxtan, “to free, liberate, save”), from Proto-Iranian *bauxtah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰauǰyáti, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéwg-e-ti from the root *bhewg- (“to flee”). Cognate with Parthian [Term?] (/buxtan/, “to free, liberate, save”) and Central Kurdish بووژانەوە (būžānawa, “to revive”).
