Etymology

From earlier *վազր (*vazr) (compare վազրաւոր (vazrawor, soldier carrying a mace)), borrowed from Middle Persian wzl (wazr, mace), which is related to Modern Persian گرز (gorz, club, mace). See also վաղր (vałr).
