լոսդի

Armenian

Etymology

Considered a word of unknown origin.[1][2][3]

Found only in the Armenian–Latin dictionary of Polish-Armenian Stefanus Roszka, quoting two works known only to him, therefore probably written in the Aṙtial (Transylvania) dialect milieu which was spoken by the Armenian diaspora in Romania, Hungary and Poland. See also թառափ (tʻaṙapʻ) and թուխու (tʻuxu) with the same philological context.

Phonetically it is probably IPA(key): [lostʰí], written in Western Armenian orthography.

Most likely borrowed from Romanian lostiță, lostică, lostriță (Danube salmon) or some by-form of these.
