The origin is uncertain. Perhaps from *բուլուր (*bulur), from *բուլ (*bul) (compare dialectal բուլ (bul)), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰōl-, from *bʰel- (to blow, grow, swell), + -ուր (-ur), and cognate with Welsh bâl (peak, summit), Icelandic bali (grassy bank).[1][2] See also բոլոր (bolor).
